Re: IE will not access HTTPS sites Suddenly

Hi Lynn :-)

Ok...you installed a trial of Acrobat 7, and still had an earlier version of
Acrobat
installed. When the trial version of Acrobat 7 expired you uninstalled it
and now the earlier
version of Acrobat no longer works. Thus, you installed Acrobat *Reader* in
order to read PDF files. And...you now can't access secure web sites Is
this correct?

I think the best option now is to uninstall the old version as well, then
reinstall the old version and see if that resolves the problem.

As for the problem accessing secure sites, see if anything here will help
with the secure sites problem. I am not sure how that may relate to the
Adobe problem, but, could be a side affect of some damaged files.

Hope this helps.

">I did two restores, one to the beginning of January when it was working.
That didn't work, so I went back to current date. HP had me go back to
the
earliest date available and that was 12/13. That did not work, but it
also
reloaded the Adobe configuration files and I don't know how to resolve
that.

I am running XP HOme edition with Service Pack 2.

I am on an old computer to get this e-mail. I cannot access it on the
computer that is affected. How annoying. I already did most of what you
suggested, but just in case there is something in there I haven't tried, I
will do that now and let you know.

Thank you for your prompt answer. I have spent all my free time over the
last few weeks just trying to figure out why I cannot log in to any of my
paid subscriptions, or MS Update. BUT MS is auto updating me during this
time somehow. Very very confusing.

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, but, if Win ME ot
P,
then you might try doing a System restore to a date prior to when you
installed the trail program and see if that helps.

Otherwise, try the following and see if it will help:

I recently ran a trial of Adobe Acrobat 7.0. When the trial was over my
already installed version no longer worked, so I had to uninstall 7.0
and
install Reader just to access .pdf files. How annoying. And Adobe has
not
responded to my problem with their successful uninstall of the trial or
the
inability to use my older product after trial.

That is not the problem.

The problem is that since then I cannot access HTTPS sites. I cannot
even
log in on the computer to Microsoft updates and get error 0x80072EFD
which
is
a firewall error. So I uninstalled Norton Firewall and now Microsoft
Firewall is running.

I can log in to non-secure sites, but Yahoo now won't let me visit
MyYahoo
since they are also now SSL.

Please help. Is there anyway to find out what is causing this?

If it is a missing .dll or other file, how do I resolve it?

I have tried restoring to an earlier date and though this was working
then,
I cannot access HTTPS even then. I know it was working in January as I
paid
bills online mid month. Now I cannot pay bills on line or even visit
my
paid
subscription sites.

HELP! I am writing from my old computer which is running MS98, new
computer
with XP won't even let me log in to this service.
