Eureka!!!
I fixed the problem. It was being caused by "My Web Search".
1) Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel
2) Double click on Add/Remove Programs
3) Find "My Web Search" in the list of installed programs and click on
Change/Remove to uninstall it. You may also want to uninstall any of the
following items associated with FunWebProducts.
+++ Thanks anyway, Vincenzo. I fixed it before reading your posting.
+++ Jan, you were on the right track with the toolbars! Thanks again.

Many thanks for your throrough answer. Unfortunately, none of the proposed
solutions resolved the problem (I rebooted my computer after taking the
proposed steps, but that didn't help). The suggested Web sites describe a
different type of problem. I didn't see my problem listed, which is that
the
browser window will close itself when clicking on a link that will
attempt to
Thanks,

Hi CDL :-)
Try the following and see if it helps:
IE crashes when I open a new browser window
Courtesy of Frank Saunders -
"Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".
Also, if you have Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a
firewall,
Earthlink (or another pop-up blocker) My IE2 (a shell for IE) etc.
Yahoo Companion is a very common cause.
You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or,
perhaps,
uninstall the program (especially uninstall Yahoo Companion).
With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will
allow
a new window.
If you're *sure* that another program isn't causing this, these links may
help.

also..
Go to Start>Run type in
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll (notice the space between 32 and urlmon)
Hit enter and ok out
and....
You might want to refresh your scripting engine:

If refreshing your scripting engine didn't help, you might try
reregistering
these two DLLs
Go to Start>Run and type in the following commands one at a time and hit
enter after each one. You should see a message that says they are
registered successfully after each one.
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
Next, reregister (regsvr32) all DLLs listed in the "Resolution" section

Bre sure nothing is blocking the Flash, such as a 3rd party program or
toolbar.
SpywareBlaster has a Flash Killer, if you use it, check to be sure it is
unchecked.
Visit Windows Update and let it scan to be sure that you have all the
latest
updates installed.
Go to
Download the latest JRE 1.4.2_xx file. Install it.
Hope this helps.

Internet Explorer suddenly closes itself when I try to go to some sites.
This is not the typical IE problem that shuts down the browser and
prompts
you to report the problem by clicking on a "send" button in a pop-up
window.
This is a crazy situation in which the browser window just closes
itself.
No
warning, no error response-nothing!
It doesn't appear to be either virus- or adware-related. I have Norton
and
Webroot and full scans with both have found nothing. This appears to
happen
when I click on a link that will automatically open a new browser
window.
Right clicking a link and choosing "Open in New Window" also causes the
browser window to close. Other IE browser windows will remain open.
Also, if I go to Tools >>> Internet Options >>> General >>> Settings,
and
click on either "View Files." or "View Objects", the IE browser window
from
which I started will also close itself!!!!
If I click Start, then click Run, then type "sfc /scannow", and then
click
OK, the browser window will also close itself and nothing will happen.
This began happening a few days ago. I've searched the Web extensively
and
found no solution, although I could see that other people are facing the
same
problem.
I use Internet Explorer - Version 6. Update Version SP2, and my
operating
system is Windows XP.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
CDL
