Thanks for the response.

The problem was resolved by simply restoring the PC to an earlier Acronis
system image. Things are working fine now - though I seem to have lost the
opportunity to find out what the issue really was!

BTW, I use Firefox - and it is an excellent browser. Plus it comes with tons
of add-ins and other customizations.
