Hi Rod :-)

Not sure I understand this part....when you go to Add/Remove Programs, there
is a button on the left side panel of the window that says Add/Remove
Windows Components. IE is not a separate program with XP, it is a component
of XP, thus, you *will not see* it listed in the regular list of installed
programs. You need to click the Add/Remove Windows Components button on the
left side panel of the Add/Remove Programs window. When it opens you will
get the WIndows Component Wizard with a list of various components. Scroll
down to the Internet Explorer and uncheck it, click Next and then Finish.
Close out of the Add/Remove Programs window, close Control Panel and all
other open programs and reboot.
Open the Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and click on the Add/Remove
Windows Components button again, scroll down to the Internet Explorer and
recheck the box next to it, click Next, then Finish, close all other windows
and programs and then Open IE and see if you get the prompt to make it your
default browser.
If you get the prompot, click Yes. When you open Netscape again, it if asks
if you want to make it your default browser, click NO.

As I stated, this was in case if you were going to reinstall/repair IE got
an error message about a newer version being installed that may have
prevented you from doing the reinstall. Othewise, you didn't need to run
it.

First go to the Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs
Click on the *Add/Remove Windows Components* button again on the left side
panel of the window, scroll down to the Internet Explorer and recheck the
box next to it, click Next, then Finish, and then open IE and see if you get
the prompt.
If you get the prompt asking if you want IE to be your default browser click
Yes. When you open Netscape again, it if asks if you want to make it your
default browser, click NO.
If that does not work, then you should now just repair IE. Follow the
instructions below on how to do this.
First, disable your AV:

XP

SP2 section:

The section
Windows XP and Windows XP SP1: Edit the registry and install Internet
Explorer 6 works on earlier versions of Windows.
You will need your CD handy.
Be sure to visit Windows Update site immediatly afterwards and let it scan
for all needed updates and service packs.
Hope this helps.
