Re: IE not opening

Let me clarify a bit more here (Frank).
I had this problem and rolling back to a previous restore ( Pror to KB's
905915.896424,910437,890830) seemed to fix it.
I then installed the following, New MoBo/Ram/Videocard and CPU. But kept the
same 4 hard disks.
Disk #1 Boot - was re-formatted
Disk#2 Data - was untouched
Disk#3 Games1 was untouched
Disk#4 games2 was untouched.
XP Pro with SP1 and SP2 was reinstalled on Boot disk. WindowsXP firewall
running along with AVG.
connected to Internet using Maxthon sucessfully for 2 days.
Then the old problem re-surfaced, IE6/Maxthon opens but just sits there with
an hourglass, If I click refresh I get the Web page could not be found
message.
Firefox and Opera are both fine. But (funnily enough) I prefer the
IE6/Maxthon combination for my browsing. I have since used my laptop to
download the latest Spybot (no problems found) and Ad Aware (24 tracking
cookies and 4 possible malware files found and removed). AVG shows no
errors. I have deleted my temp files/cookies and Temp internet files.
I think that maybe I have some malware so I am currently following your
suggestion on other posts to use the info on
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware
This annoys me no end as I have not had any virus etc on my computer before
and I have been building them since 1986. Ah well first time for everything,
just a lottle worried that I wont fix this one.
ALSO, my windows update has been sitting there on 2% for three days now ??
that one has me stuffed again.

cheers
Freddie
