Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Let's revisit this thread to see if there are others who absolutely CANNOT
get either MSVM or SUN to run within IE.

Yes Frank (MVP), I understand that MS is moving away from supporting MSVM,
and yes we have also tried SUN - many versions of sun to be exact on many
different PC's at different companies with no commonality other than IE. MS
is supporting MSVM until the year 2007 now, so how about a little support
from this group? Anyone else have any suggestions to try. Here is a list of
things I have tried. Keep in mind that neither version of Java works on ANY
java applet, and immediately fails any online java testing sites.

1.) Disable BHO's in IE
2.) Register .dll files for IE
3.) Register .dll files for Java (Sun and MSVM)
4.) Unregister .dll files for Java (Sun and MSVM) purposely to try to break
it
to get a different response
4.) Resetting web settings in IE and through registering wininet
5.) Removing items from downloaded program files that could be old versions
of
java or disabled versions of java
6.) Checking for spyware including running "Hijack this"
7.) Deleting java temporary files
8.) Deleting internet temporary files
9.) Deleting windows temp files
10.) Runing windows SFC /scannow to replace possible corrupted files
11.) Attempt to remove and reinstall MSVM using the tool that Microsoft put
out
to remove MSVM from Windows to have a "clean box" to install new versions of
Java.
12.) Reinstall Sun and unregister MSVM (regsvr32 /u msjava.dll)
13.) Tried to remove MSVM manually
(http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/howto-21.html)
14.) Checked to make sure MSVM wasn't accessible (Under Set Program Access
and
Defaults in Add/Remove Programs check Microsoft Virtual Machine isn't
assessable - uncheck enable access)
15.) Checking the security settings for Java in IE

The only thing I havn't tried was to revert back to a previous version of
Windows service pack to see if that resolved the issue.
