Frank--Thanks for your reply. I've been running XP Service Pack 2 since it
came out over a year ago and I always install the Windows updates the minute
they come out. I don't have any toolbars or other third party stuff
installed in IE. Unfortunately, my daughter and her friend downloaded a
virus on Friday. Norton caught and quarantined the infected file, but I
think I may have needed it to run IE properly. I was so scared by the
thought of having a virus on my machine that I deleted the stuff in
quarantine. At first I was getting a run-time error "5" when I started IE.
I worked and worked to fix this problem. I ran AdAware, Spybot, Microsoft's
spy program, Norton, CrapCleaner, PC Pitstop and PCRescue. Believe me there
are no bad things left on this computer. But now I'm afraid some good things
got wiped too. Every few minutes my IE freezes and the only way to recover
is to go into the Task Manager and cancel IE. It's really annoying because
it's hard to get anything done on the internet. Just a few minutes ago I
followed some advice I found on the Web to repair IE 6. I've got my fingers
crossed that this is going to work. If not, I'm afraid I'm going to have to
undertake a Windows XP repair or reinstall and I'm not looking forward to the
job. Unless, there is some way to reinstall only Internet Explorer, I'm
afraid I don't have any other choice.
