Removing the update made no difference.

One thing I've seen is that IE isn't getting as far as requesting a page-
the firewall doesnt ask for permission to allow connection when trying to
connect to a page.

I wonder if I can just get an IE download to install a new copy of it. I'll
have a look round the MS site in a day or so.
