I was wondering if anybody else might have run into this problem and know what I might try in order to fix this. This has happened to me repeatedly about once a week for 2-3 months. I keep expecting Microsoft to come out with a patch but I haven't seen anything in there knowledge base articles as of yet.
Windows xp (32-bit) 3.2 Ghz Xeon (32-bit) with 64-bit extensions availiable for the other boot record on the disk. 2 Gb ram 2 Sata drives
The Problem happens when starting an Internet Explorer browser it manages to hang the entire system. After clicking Ctrl+Alt+Del and opening the task manager the processor is pegged at 100% and the processor threading is starved as certain windows on the desktop fail to refresh. Their appears to be no way to shut down the application. If you hit end process the window manages to disappear while iexplore.exe is still present and running in the processes tab. Usage in the process tab is around 99% with Mem Usage around 20,000k+. Highlighting the iexplore.exe and trying to kill it does not seem to work either. Neither does End Process Tree. I set the Priority level down to low and for an instant the process jumps down to 84% relenquishing the PC for an instance than jumps right back up to 99%. It will ultimately hang the computer for hours. The only way to get the computer back is to perform a hard reboot holding down the power button for 5 seconds or more.
If anybody knows of a solution please email me tbrunnemer@xxxxxxxxx
Thanks in advance, Tyler
