Hi Ida :-)
If you have any 3rd party toolbars popup or ad blockers installed, disable them. If you have Yahoo Companion installed, uninstall it. Check your firewall and Security settings, set secuity to low. Some Av's like McAfee, can also affect the ability to access some types of sites.
Also..try updating your scripting engine. The latest scripting engine for 2000 and XP go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c717d943-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en The install includes a new jscript.dl

Hi Jan :-)
I checked kb/265847 but it does not seem to pertain to my problem, i.e. I
have trouble with almost all Idaho Sate web site, not just the ones on which
you make transactions.
I downloaded (and I guess) installed the dns.reg file
I also changed the HOSTS to OLDHOSTS file
To no avail.
This thing is bizarre, any other ideas?
Thank you ! I reaaly want to be using IE6 on this laptop !

Hi Ida :-)
First,
Then check the information here and see if it helps: Page cannot be displayed...Cannot find server or DNS error. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/265847/EN-US/
Page Cannot be Found and/or DNS/Server Error http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/dns.reg
also...
Check for a hosts file (justs "hosts" not hosts.sam or lmhosts) in these locations: Windows XP… C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC You may have to enable the viewing of hidden files.
Rename your HOSTS file to OLDHOSTS and see if the problem persists.
Hope this helps.
