Cannot find server

I cannot link to Internet Explorer. I can only access the internet through
AOL. Everytime i try to go on to Internet Explorer it say's 'Page cannot be
displayed'. i have tried everything and nothing seems to work. I have XP SP2
installed but not sure if this is the problem. Any help would be fantastic
however i'm not that technical so an idiots guide would be great.
