Re: Buffer overrun

I wasnt sure what it meant but here is the definition from MS

Buffer Overrun
An attack in which a malicious user exploits an unchecked buffer in a
program and overwrites the program code with their own data. If the program
code is overwritten with new executable code, the effect is to change the
program's operation as dictated by the attacker. If overwritten with other
data, the likely effect is to cause the program to crash.

Cause your girlfriends puter is doing the same it would appear that you have
both been infected by a CTV - computer transmitted virus.(Sorry I had to
inject some humor here.. it was too tempting)

How to fix it... Get protected first!... there are free malware removers
available. I don't have a list but spybot-search and destroy comes to mind.

You have to remove the badie from both puters.

Second... Stay protected.. do regular checks of your puters for malicious
downloads. The malware removers can do this for u or there are free on-line
checks from norton.com or trendmicro.com or others.

After u have removed the offending badie you can re-install IE6.

Third...be vigilant. Keep your security settings on High when surfing at new
sites until you think they can be trusted.(Click the Zone icon on the status
bar in IE to display your current security settings... easy peasy to change)

And most important of all.. do regular Windows Updates to download the
latest security patches and enhancements. Select the Tools\Windows Update
menu item in IE6. The windows update has options to do it all automatically
so once you've done it the first time u can select it to do it automatically
from then on and forget about it.
