Things aren't that desparate. You don't have to re-install IE..
Check your Internet Settings

Tools\Internet Options... go to the Advanced tab

Scroll down the list... you will see an Item 'Empty Temporary Internet Files
folder when browser is closed' Un-check this..( I may be wrong on this
point.. Tempory Internet Files may not include your cookies?.. I had a
look.. yep on the General tab the delete cookies button asks if you want to
delete your cookies from the Temporary Internet Files folder.)


Also if you have Norton Anti-virus there are settings there for the
treatment of your cookies. I imagine other anti-virus software will have
similar options. I know that the Norton Clean Sweap and Internet Clean-up
utilities clear your cookies folder.

As a general point about security and usability try to keep your security
level when surfing the net. For trusted sites add them to your Trusted Zone.
It is very easy to change the security settings... Click on the security
icon on the status bar.. this will display the Internet Zones dialog. You
can make fine tuning adjustments there and then while you are at a site.
