In addition to Robear's suggestions - if your system comes up clean - it could be your Favorites folder for that account is damaged/corrupted:

I have a machine that is running XP sp2 and IE 6.0.2900 My problem is that everytime a user tries to create a bookmark IE crashes. This is not user specific. I have only bare essential third party programs running on this machine. McAfee Enterprise 8.0 AdAware 1.06 MS Office XP All service packs and updates are in place. I would appreciate anyones ideas on this trouble.
