Download and install the latest Java version from here: http://www.java.com/en/download/download_the_latest.jsp

As for your original post about having plain-looking web sites come up, in addition to the Java -
In IE go to Tools...Internet Options...General tab, Accessibility button and make sure everything is unchecked there, click Okay. Then on the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Multimedia section and make sure everything you want is checked there, click Apply, Okay.

I did the test run for the applets and there is no display for both 1 or 1.1 , which I assume signifies that my browser function has either been deleted or perhaps turned off...[?] in terms of the Java/applets. That is assuming that this is the overall problem? Can you assume how I might be able to trouble shoot my way through the problem. I mean would I have to go through some kind of security area and make some changes...?
