Re: IE will not display websites

Hi Alby

Hi everybody,
Thanks to all who assisted. Zonealarm was blocking IE internet
access. This was fixed when I unistalled Zonealarm and then re-installed it. Everything is working ok now. Update is working as well now and
downloaded 20 updates.
Thanks again,

You're very welcome! Glad to hear you were able to resolve your problem. Good job!

Hi Alby :-)

Try the following. Perhaps it will help:

First…right click on the ZA Icon on the system tray, down by your
clock, and be sure that the "Stop all internent activity" is not
checked. ZoneAlarm Help - How to set up Zone Alarm

Zone Alarm Pro can block access to Internet

Hope this helps :-)

Thanks for that, I switched off Zonealarm and that solved the
problem. IE is now working. Now I have to try and find out why
Zonealarm was blocking it. May have to re-install zonealarm.

is there anything set in "Dial-up and virtual Private Network
settings", make sure never dial is on. Also turn off ALL
firewalls including the windows firewall and see if you can go
online. the firewall maybe blocking IE. "Alby"

If you are refering to the Internet options - connections - LAN
settings ,yes the proxy settings are blank and not ticked.

Hi,
This is a second attempt to get help from this newsgroup.
Previous single reply did not assist me.
I'm hoping some of you folks will be able to help me. Each time
I open IE and try a web address I get the 'page cannot be
displayed' or dns error. Four days ago I was hit with a
trojan/adware/spyware. I have
used the following and managed to clean it up, or so I thought.

Adaware (latest version)
Spy bot SD (latest version)
Ewido security suite
Etrust antivirus V7
Hijackthis

I have Flushed DNS
used the WinsockXPfix
done a netsh int ip reset ,
done a regsvr32 re-register of the pertinent .dlls mentioned in
other posts(the only one that did not register was msjava.dll
(unable to locate file))
I have reset IE to defaults, disabled third party add-ons.
I have done a repair instal of XP Home SP2..

I also use the Mozilla Firefox browser and that works fine. I
am able to connect to ISP for email and web pages via Firefox
and Outlook Express. So I
don't think the problem is connection related.

I usually use Firefox as my default browser but I need IE to
download updates
from Microsoft.

I am at my wits end trying to resolve this problem. I hope
someone can help.

Alby
