Re: reinstall IE 6 SP 2 version

1. Are you fully up-to-date at Windows Update? Is MS05-020 (Apr-05 Cumulative Security Update for IE) installed (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS05-020.mspx)?

2. To reinstall IE in WinXP SP2, you must reinstall WinXP SP2 itself. See the SP2-specific section of http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378.

But reinstalling might not solve your problem if it's caused by a third-party application (e.g., a Norton or McAfee security product) or "hijackware".

3a. Disable any Script Blocking features of your anti-virus or security suite, to see if it might be the problem. Do the same with any third-party pop-up blocker you might have installed.

3b. Are you using IE in WinXP SP2 to access the e-newspaper at your office? Are you able to access it using WinXP SP2 on any other machine? If so, what's running in the background on your machine that's not running on these machines? Try the Clean Boot technique to see what might be interfering on your machine: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=316434.

4. Check for hijackware:
