I had this exact problem and attempted the standard adware removal that the
usual suspects offer up here, with no effect.
My wife was getting impatient so I downloaded Netscape 7.2 (from my laptop)
and installed it (including Java 2) and the redirect to http:/// did not
occur while using it. I also set Netscape to be the default browser.
After rebooting I tried IE again just out of curiosity, and, what do you
know, redirect to http:/// no longer occurs.
