portions of web sites have page can not be displayed

Upon browsing web sites, portions of the page where pictures are supposed to
be are blank with a little red X in the corner, and some of the pages have
page can not be displayed. I've went to internet options and restored
everything to default. In short, I've done everything that I know to fix the
problem, but am still at a loss. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where
I should go from here?
