Java Scripts and flash 5 plugin

Hi

Could anyone help for the following issues:

1. Java Scripts do not work.

        Script has been abled in the browser configuration
        Java Machine has been downloaded

2. Sites requiring flash 5 plugin do not load

    Have downloaded the plugin and the latest plugin several times

My system is XP Professional-SP2.

Any help will be much appreciated.
