Hi,
I'm unable to create a PPPoE connection using Windows so I can use my DSL
modem. My DSL modem was working fine up to a week ago and then it quit,
unexpectedly. I'm using an Efficient Networks Speedstream 5260 DSL modem, if
that helps. I've already tried system restore but it doesn't work. My ISP
told me I have a non-uft modem that has to have a PPPoE connection created
for it to be used. My ISP has no software to do this as Windows XP is
capable of creating the PPPoE connection. However, when trying to create the
PPPoE connection in the New Connection Wizard, the only option I have to
describe my connection is "a broadband connection that is always on."
According to my ISP, I must select "a broadband connection that requires a
username and password" for authentication reasons but it is greyed out. I
found a KB article that sounds like it references the issue (Q320558) and I
haven't tried it yet today (and I'm hesitant to make changes to the registry)
but I need to have this issue resolved quickly and i was wondering if anyone
else knew of this issue and, if so, how did you resolve it? Any help would
be greatly appreciated!
