Hi ,
I have already resolved this problem so this is just to share the solution
to the problem . I am certain this will hit a lot of people.
My home page got hijacked. to something called www.iwantsearch.com . Not
only that it put in an unwanted toolbar .
So I went to the "View Objects" tab in the under the settings button and
tried to delete the object under "search bar" it said file in use cannot be
deleted etc.
I also found out that 2 files rundlg32.dll and rundlg32.inf were associated
with this.
These files were in the \windows\downloaded program files folder.
However looking for them the usual way ended up with nothing as the folder
has the System attribute set.
This is where knowledge of DOS came in handy.
---------------
You have to start up the system in DOS by keeping the Control key pressed
while booting.
This has to be done under DOS as it seems the system attribute cannot be
reset under windows.
CD to windows
then do ....
ATTRIB -S downlo~1
then
CD downlo~1
DEL rundll32.*
after this remember to
CD ..
ATTRIB +S downlo~1
and that should take care of the problem.
No harm doing an Internet Explorer repair also.
