I haven't any *real* answer for you at this juncture. Sorry. I can say that
the Java site *may* be having an issue though. If you get the error message
(not a valid Win32 application) which you've gotten, often that is due to an
incomplete (corrupted) download. Re-download the file again. Make sure to
empty your TIF's /Cache by the approved methods first using IE
Options>delete files. You may be getting the download from your cache.

j2re-1_4_2_05-windows-i586-p.exe is messed up right now. I had to un-install
Java for a particular reason, and now I cannot re-install it as an error
appears. This has been ongoing for two days now. It states something to the
effect of "error: <something or other could not install, due to something or
other>(hehe pretty useless and unscientific of me.) It differed from your
error message though.
