Search Engine in Internet Explorer does not work

I have recently downloaded the most recent Service Pack
for windows XP (service pack 2). Since that time the
search engine in my Internet Explorer no longer works. I
get a message in the bottom tool bar that says "error on
page". Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix
this problem?
