If i download latest OE6 updates, will it update OE also ?

OK,can i uninstall IE6 without affecting outlook express ? I dont want it to
uninstall OE and end up losing all my emails.
IE has been acting up ,not showing background images for example(unless
someone knows how to get them to show),so i dont know whether to use the IE
updates,or uninstall and reinstall it
