open problems with internet explorer

I am running Internet explorer 6.0.2800.1106Ccyber streght 128-bit
update versions SP1
 And often when I start my system I get an Iexplore not responding and I can
not get to my browser. After several restarts I usually get a long pause as
I click to Internet explorer and it takes a while then finally it opens.
Also I have noticed several times I have got the erroe internet explorer has
detected a problem and it closes
can anyone offer advice?
