I came to this board because of the very same problem. In
all honesty, this part:

***********************************

Open an ms-dos prompt window (Start>Run>) and type the
following (one entry
at a time), and press enter after each line. A message
will appear stating
that these have been registered successfully.

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll (this command only for Win2000 and XP)
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

***********************

scares the HECK out of me! I know that messing with the
registry can really botch up your machine. Is this
something that a novice should do?

Any references to this particular error message (IE has
enountered a problem and needs to close) on this board
seem to elicit the same reactions......to search for
malware, spyware, etc. Can I determine, then, that this
is the normal culprit? Just curious.

Thank you.
