Resolved! A kind person on HTMLForums.com helped me to see that it was
my rowspan attribute in the first TD cell. I just couldn't see the
problem, and I was misled that it was an IE 6 issue because the
problem wasn't visible in IE 5, Mozilla Firebird or Opera 7.
