Hi Richard,
Click Start, Run and type REGSVR32 /i SHDOCVW
Reboot. If the problem persists, open Registry Editor and export these
locations:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.URL
-and-
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Internetshortcut
-and-
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http
Post the contents of the REG file here.

I have been helping a friend get his computer cleaned up after some viruses,
spyware, etc. from his Windows 2000 Pro installation. Everything seems to be
clean now but now he can't open a url on the desktop. He can bring up IE6
by itself and type in the address and it works fine. But if he saves a
webpage to the desktop and then double-clicks on the desktop he gets a
message like this:
Cannot find the file http://www.googla.ca/ (or one of its components). Make
sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are
available.
I went to his Folder Options / File Types and checked that the URL type was
set up properly (well at least it matches mine and mine works)
One thing I did notice was that when I right click on one of these saved
URLs that there are two Open menu choices. Neither one works but it does
seem odd.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should be looking at?
Thanks
Richard
