There was a definite problem with this update. I had the same problems and
despite several messages to this newslist was told to look for viruses, etc.
Now, on its update site, MS acknowledges there was a problem and posted a
revised update dated August 1. My laptop was out of commission for 3 weeks
because of this update and XP's restore did not solve my problem. I finally
got it back to working shape because I have image backups made by Acronis
True Image 7. When I restored the partition from the image backup, all was
fine again.
