First see if disabling NIS makes any difference, Bob. If not, I'd (1)
uninstall NIS 2004, (2) make certain all traces of NIS 2003 are removed,
too, and then (3 & OPTIONAL) reinstall NIS 2004 once you're not having any
problems.
