It sounds like you did not previously have "Standard Buttons" checked in your View menu and the update just added a check mark there. You should still have your standard "File, edit, view, favorites, tools, etc..." toolbar somewhere near your address bar. If you click on the Favorites" button that has an icon over it, you will get the favorites menu in a frame next to your open explorer window. Instead use the favorites button up top (or where ever you have located your toolbar) where the file and edit buttons are.
