I wanted to share a fix for the address bar search function in Internet
Explorer 6. This function was disabled after my browser was hijacked. I
tried many suggestions posted here and elsewhere with no luck. I finally
found the problem: a simple underscore character buried in the registry.
Here's what I did:
Using the search function in regedit, search for any registry key that
includes "URLSearchHooks"
The key you'll most likely find is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks
Look at the value for the key; it should be:
{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}
Here's the important part: If there is an underscore symbol before the
first bracket, delete it. In my case there were two entries with the
value above, the first with an underscore before the first bracket, the
next had no underscore. I deleted the value with the underscore and the
address bar search function started to work again. Woo-hoo! If you
search and find any other URLSearchHooks keys in the registry, you may
want to check those as well.
By the way, one easy way to customized the address bar search is to
install Tweak UI, available here:

Hope this post helps some of you.
