I have a simple ASP script that writes both a session cooke and a "permanent" cookie. If I access the site via the server IP like http://123.456.789.000/test.asp everything is great in both IE (6.0) and Netscape (7.0 i think). The strange part is when I use the machine name like http://mymachine.somwhere.com/test.asp. Netscape sees both cookies just fine but IE refuses to work with them. I have tried many if not all combinations of cookie settings under tools-->internetOptions-->privacy to no avail. My suspicion is the server is using the machine name to write the cookie but the browser only sees the IP. Is this possible? Has anyone had similar problems or does anyone have any clues?
