Sounds like SpywareGuard (a good, albeit somewhat annoying program.) It *is*
looking after your settings and interests, if that is what you have
installed. As long as it is running in the background (SG icon shows in
Systray) that is what you'll be seeing until you either give an instruction
or stop it from running in the background.

Depending what other programs that you may have of this nature - such as
Spybot S&D - there are ways to remove the pestilent files which are at the
root of this. If you have Spybot S&D, look into the Tools section and
examine the BHO's and Browser pages which are listed.

There are also BHO programs to remedy BHO problems. BHO Demon is one, BHO
Cop is another. These can be found at Major Geeks, and PC magazine utilities
respectively. PC magazines utilities require a $19,95 per year subscription
fee to access the library of some 100+ (I don't remember exactly how many)
programs. I have a subscription, and it was worth every penny.
