I'm having the same problem- two computers both running
IE 6.0 stop responding when Dialup connection accessed.
These programs stop responding:
Taskmanager
I.E.
MSN Messenger 6.1
My Default Email Client (not OE)
Word 2004
...anything that accesses the internet, for up to 15
minutes!
I do not have Zone Alrm installed in either machine. This
computer runs XP Pro and the other Win98. (this issues is
NOT isolated to just XP machines!)
Just prior to posting this message every program that was
attempted to boot, including a couple of non-internet
programs, appeared in the "running processes" window of
Taskmanager with an extremely low Mem useage (3000k or
less).
When the computer finally stops stalling after pressing
the shortcut I have for MSN Messenger once while it was
stalling, often it will run four processes of it when I
only pressed the keys long enough for once. (my MSN is
enabled to run several at once, however, prior to the IE
problem it would boot a single satisfactorily, this issue
is not to do with the state of MSN Messenger and I am
convinced of that)
I tried uninstalling IE 6.0 on this computer to re-
install but that didn't work has it has been clearly
INTERGRATED into XP Pro. I cannot run a "repair
installation" as I don't have the CDs, rather my repair
service would only reimage my machine with teh original
company "image", thereby removing every single setting,
program, and customisation on my machine (which takes up
to fifteen hours to recreate). I know this is an Internet
Explorer issue as the exact same problem has occured on a
Win98 machine.
What should I do to fix this and is there a registry fix
for this because i assume it has something to do with the
registry.
