I'm running IE6 with Windows 98. When I open most pages,
such as espn.com, I get a red "x" in the picture boxes and
no pictures. If I view encoding, it always says it's on
western european (ISO) when this occurs. If I change it
to western european (windows) then the pictures will
reappear, but, as soon as I go to the next page the
pictures will disappear again and the encoding goes back
to western european (ISO). Note that I do have "auto
select" checked under encoding.
As recommended, I have tried numerous options to fix this
problem, including changing the default in the recommended
registry key to both cp_1252.nls and to cp_28591.nls with
no success. Does anyone have any other ideas? Also
note: I'm working on a Gateway laptop. I've had this
same problem on a Compaq laptop before but never on a
desktop computer.
