I'm getting the same problem on a regular basis on a network of 100 users.
Only fix seems to be to delete the 'microsoft' folders from within the users
profile while they are logged out.
At the same point in time that the problem occurs, if you try to adjust the
size of IE's cache you'll notice that :
- no cache directory is specified ( although the registry is actually set )
- the cache set is set to 0 , but you cannot change that
- if you click OK in the dialog box, it then complains that you need to set
the cache size to something between 1 and 0
- if you try to specify a folder for the cache, IE tells you there is not
enough space.
Problem only occurs for 'downloads', which i guess means anything mime type
that is not handled internally by IE.
At the same point in time other users can access the site fine, and other
browsers ( e.g. mozilla ) on the same machine as the broken IE can also
access the site fine.
