Applet problem with IE6 - how do you uninstall applets?

Hi,

I am using a new(ish) XP home system.

I am having a problem with a web page - when I press a button I get an error
and the bottom left of the browser reports "Applet signer notinited".

Now I think the problem may be that I did not complete the installation of
an applet successfully - trying this on another browser I had two dialogue
boxes one after another to install the applet - so I am suspicious because
on this one I only had one dialogue box.

I have checked and I don't have the Microsoft Java VM but I do have the Sun
Java VM.

A java test page suggests that the Sun Java is working O.K for 1.0 and 1.1
Java.

The question stopping me now is:

"How do you tell which applets are installed for your browser, if they are
O.K., and how do you uninstall them?".

>From time to time web pages ask you to accept applets e.g. Windows Update.

Where do they go,
how do you find them,
how do you remove them so you are prompted to install them next time you
visit a web site which requires them?

Sounds easy, but....
