Proxy configuration and RRAS demand dial connections

I had a problem where my LAN proxy settings were simply
being ignored. Hehe drove me crazy trying to track down
what was causing it.
Normally your LAN settings are used unless you establish a
dialup or VPN connection in which case the settings
specific to that connection are used. (tools/connections
tab in IE)
My problem was that I also had some demand dial VPNs
configured in RRAS which apparently have the same behavior
twoard IE as VPNs except that your demand dial interfaces
don't show up in the connections tab :(
IMHO this is a bug and either the existance of demand dial
connections in RRAS should never alter your LAN proxy
settings or they should show in the connections tab.
I created a test entry and searched the registry to find
where the proxy configuration for the VPN settings were
being stored... It was my lucky day because the entire
configuration is a single entry whos key is a string
matching the name of your dialup/vpn connection.
Hoping that IE would just lookup the name of the demand
dial setting same as the VPN I created a dummy VPN that
I'll never use having the same name as the demand dial
entry in RRAS. Configured it to use my proxy server in
the connections tab of IE... and that did it. Got my
proxy server back :)
