Thanks to George, I just wandered into this thread, and I'm not sure where
all the brouhaha started - but thought I'd say a thing or three in response
to what I've been reading.
A whole lotta folks (thank goodness) are joining the "parasite fight" these
days and, while many are doing a spectacular job, nobody has moved more
mountains than Merijn, who has my respect and gratitude. For his programs
and instructions, I link straight to the source -- except, of course, when
the source is unavailable, as with the recent and prolonged DDoS attacks he
has suffered.
When this hit - and Merijn's site became, for a time unavailable - Silj was
kind enough to give me alternate download links for most of what's
available. I've added these liberally in various places on my site (always -
in case it matters to anyone - marking them as alternate links to
distinguish them from the primary ones).
My own evolving best efforts to aid the war can be found here:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
http://aumha.org/a/noads.htm
http://forum.mvps.org/index.php?c=12
Links (including alternate links) to some of the more popular and useful
antiparasite tools, including CWShredder, can also be found on the "My
Favorite Freeware" page: http://aumha.org/freeware.htm
If anyone has a need for four different ways to get to each of the previous
pages, you may add www. to the front of any of them, and substitute
winsupportcenter.com for aumha.org. Pick your favorite flavor <g>.
Lucky, you flatter me enormously, and I'm happy you continue to find the
site valuable and helpful. This summer will mark 5 years it's been going
and, over time, one can accumulate a bunch of stuff. I've tried to make the
site into the tool that *I* like to use. A bunch of other folks have said
that this approach works just fine for them and they can find their way
around.
Don't worry about my bandwidth consumption. I haven't yet begun to hit the
available bandwidth limits despite lots and lots of hits. Send all the flood
of genuinely interested people that you want, either to the site itself -
http://aumha.org/ - or to the forums at http://forum.aumha.org/ - or to
both.
And if this makes me a target for those attacks, too... well, I don't want
to make life harder on the kind folks at pair.com, though they have the
resources to fight almost any attack that can be levied. And I don't want to
be mistaken for a supporter of a certain politician by shouting, "Bring'em
on!" But... well, I really do have a ton of bandwidth and a webhost support
team that knows how to fight (and has something like 6x bandwidth overage),
so let's just say I have no anxiety about being turned into a target as a
result of your circulating links to my site. We're handling the first 3
million hits a month just fine, and we could double that without a bandwidth
problem.
On the other hand, it sucks like a Hoover that one of my fellow MVPs levied
the attack that he did. Too bad I won't be seeing him in April so we can
throw shots of vodka at each other from 10 paces (and then buy each other a
few refills). I'm willing to accept this as his having a bad day and
tripping over the Send button due to both feet being in his mouth (I've
Bindar Dundat <s>). But I'm sorry you got bullied by it, Lucky.
