Is the Internet Zone security level set to its default settings?

What BHOs (Browser Helper Objects) have been added to IE? Use BHO Demon to
find out (don't remember their web site but a Google search should find it).
With BHO Demon, you can disable the BHOs without having to uninstall them.

Tried using msconfig.exe to perform a clean boot?

Have you fully cleared the browser's temp file cache? Cookies, too?
