Thanks for the input, Lanwench.

However, the actual problem is that users' "My Documents" folders
are *already* pointing to the root of their individual folders. We
have drive letter I: mapped for all of them for this purpose and
don't want to change it or add any sub-folders to it.

But why can't you just change the drive mapping in your login
script? The users wouldn't even know the difference. Just move it
one level *down*.

Thanks Again, Lanwench,

I certainly could change our script. Two things are preventing me:

1) We have a lot of users and a lot of files. Don't really feel like
moving all of those gigs unless necessary.

The policy can be setup to do that, AFAIK. Or you could script it.

2) I'm holding out hope that there is an easy way to leverage the old
method using %username% environment variable.

It still does - it just adds a subfolder :) You'll have to play with the
group policy settings to see what you can come up with. It may well be
possible.

I don't understand why an actual folder called "My Documents" must
be created in 2003 whereas in 2000 it did not.

Well - it just does, is all. You can perhaps change the folder
redirection settings to something other than what you're using now
to change this (e.g., don't use "basic - redirect everyone to the
same location").

Personally, I *prefer* this. It means you can redirect Desktop,
Application Data, Start Menu as well - to the same parent folder per
user.

I hear ya here. Are you aware of a good reg hack to eliminate the
requirement?

Not that I know of.

It just seems rather childish and Fisher-Price that MS would've taken
this simple functionality away after it was already in place!

Can't answer that, sorry. As I said, I find it a huge improvement.

TIA Again!
