Thanks, but last time it took me over 40 hours to reinstall
everything and get it all working properly (even after running the
FAST). There is work related proprietary stuff as well. I think I'll
put up with extras in registry.

Cheers

Ouch. Well, you know best :-)

Thanks Lanwench

Would be nice, but unfortunately it is out of the question.

I have been caught with clean installs before. It takes me weeks to
get everything going again as it was. There are many programs
installed, most take a lot to get them to do what my wife wants them
to do.
Thanks
Mark

OK. Well, you may just be stuck with bits and pieces in the registry
that you don't want, then. Used computers should always be wiped. It
shouldn't take weeks to restore its settings! You might consider
running the FAST to an external drive before doing so, if there's
something in your wife's user profile that can be transferred to
your newly rebuilt system.

Hi
Help!
My wife's boss gave her an older 2004 PC for her to use at home
some time ago, I contacted them, but there is a new systems admin
and they are not helpful.

I have full rights to policies (group/network etc) and can change
all. I need to get rid of screen saver but can't as it is
permanently set
i.e. I right click desktop, go to it, but it is greyed out. Seems
to be in policies.??

The screen saver seems to mess things up - like when I'm trying to
capture my holidays from my video camera via firewire. After
screen saver activates it jams up.

Also, like to be able to remotely connect from home network and
can't on this PC - can on others. Where is that?

Alternatively, maybe I can just reset all to a 'normal vanilla'
PC - is that possible. i.e. just wipe the lot out. How can I do
that? Help!!

Many thanks
Mark

Google for "registry tattooing".

Seriously, I think the best thing to do with this computer would be
to flatten and reinstall it. You never know what else will be
lurking on there. A clean install of your operating system will
guarantee that you know what's on there and have control over the
settings. Presuming you're using XP, see
