David,
I think their's a domain profile for the Windows Firewall which detects if
the computer is connected to the domain and if so it will turn the firewall
on (the machine is assumed to be behind a corporate firewall). If not (i.e.
user is working remotely), the policy will protect the computer by turning
the Firewall on. Found here:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > Network
Connections > Windows Firewall
The article below says: "It is highly recommended that you configure both
domain and standard profile settings and enable Windows Firewall for both
profiles."

Now, have I ever tried this personally? No. But I will test this all out
