We are redirecting my docs and desktop to a network location and all
seems to work fine. But, wondering why when I echo %USERPROFILE% I
get c:\docs and settings\... instead of the network location. But,
if I install a program that uses that variable it gets installed
correctly in \\server\redirected\username? Where can I see what
that variable is set to if echo'ing it in cmd gives the wrong
information?
I think you've got a slight misunderstanding of how this works -
that's normal. You aren't redirecting the *profile*. The profile
path is always going to be c:\documents and settings\%username%.
This will be true even if you use roaming profiles as well as folder
redirection - there will always be a locally cached copy of the
profile while you're logged in.
What is it you're worried about re your application installs? You
can do redirection of Application Data as well if you wish, but that
won't necessarily help you if you install an application on Computer
X and then the user logs in to Computer Y (which doesn't have the
app installed).
Thanks for the clarification.
No prob - hope it helped.
