Hello PapaJon_S,
BTW, why not let them save there own shortcuts? It's more user friendly and
saves you a lot of work.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'm back to the drawing board then... I
have been playing with a logon script to uses cacls to deny access.
But I think it fails because of the reason you allude too; the folder
is simply not created yet. I suppose this may work if I use roaming
profiles and let it reside on the local machine. But I was never fond
of filling up HD space with profiles that do not really need to be
present.
Back at it!
Thanks again.

Hello PapaJon_S,
You can create a default user profiles for anybody logging in, but
because thedesktopicons are located in the Documents and
settings\username folder, where they have Full control, the user can
do anything inside. Because the folder structure will be created
during the first login i am not sure if you can reconfigure the
security settings directly with a script. Think you can reconfigure
the security during the second login, but you have to test it.

Is there any way to "lock"desktopicons viagrouppolicy? What
we're trying to do is have only 2 or 3 icons available on a generic
login but the user could not add/delete/modify any of thedesktop
icons. I've been at this for days and I'm at a loss trying to figure
it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.- Hide quoted text -

Actually I agree with you about the desktop icons.... ...but the
person who signs my paycheck does not! :)
