I have a whole load of computer objects sitting in an OU and I want to
apply a GPO to them so as to lock the actual devices down to any user
who logs onto them. The problem is that the settings I want to set are
User based i.e. desktop, start menu and task bar etc. When I attempt
to apply any of these User based settings nothing happens on the
computers in my OU. If I apply some of the Computer based settings
like IE settings then it works fine so I know that my policy is being
pushed out OK. Can someone expalin how I can lock down the computers
in my OU without changing the GPO of the user objects of users who
will be using the computers.
This is the way Group Policy works. What you're searching for is "Loopback Processing Mode":
