Re: What is the quickest way to do this

The SpecOps tool is excellent but GUI based. I have a free command-line remote GP refresh tool you can check out as well at www.gpoguy.com/rgprefresh.htm

1) If i want to run a command like gpupdate.exe /force on my workstations (a
lot of them). What is the quickest way to do it? Can it be done through a
GPO or MUST (i don't know scripts) i use a script?

Download and Install Specops GPUpdate
http://www.specopssoft.com/products/specopsgpupdate/

I will have a look at this link. Thank you

2) If i implement a GPO without using the gpupdate.exe /force on the
workstations how long does it take for the settings to take effect by
themselve?

90 Minutes or logoff/logon (restart)

FORCE is only nessesary if you want to REDEPLOY an applied GPO. It is not
a "force" to take it for the first time or because of a change.

A GPO will always be applied if it is new, or if it has changed.
(see gpt.ini -> Version=, or GPM Version information)

Force is only necessary to apply a GPO, that is active, but you want
to reapply it even it does not have changed.

Under normal conditions, eg you create a new or change a existing one,
"gpupdate" without any paramters will do its job.

OK, so in future when i change or create a new GPO i will just gpupdate in a command line
from all the workstations through the tool you provided above. In the past i would manually
run a command from a workstation and it was VERY time consuming. Thank you
very much for the tool.
