RE: Categories missing in Group Policy!

Just to let everyone know that I solved the problem myself by uninstalling
the GPM and restarted the server. Then I installed GPM again and problem
solved. Not sure that the restart was necessary, but figured it wouldn't hurt
;)

Hi Sean!

Thanx for your reply. I'll give that a try :) Sounds like it's the editor
then that's causing the problem :S

I ran into the same thing. I bypassed the GPO editor and went to Run and
typed "mmc" to open the root console. Went to File and Add/Remove snap in...
and added the GPO editor to the root console and that let me see all the
categories I was missing.

Hope that helps.

Woops.....totally forgot to write that the server is Windows 2003 SP2.

Last time I positively know that the Group Policies Editor showed the
missing categories was october 2006.

Hi!

I've got a customer where I today needed to edit a group policy but when I
accessed the group policy I wanted to edit the System, Network and Printers
categories in the "Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates" section
were missing. I don't know if other categories are missing but my guess is
that some are missing.....

I can see that the policies using these categories are still working and I
can enable and disable 'em as needed without trouble, but I can't edit them
or create new ones containing settings from these categories (since I can't
acces them).

I've tried to re-register the below dll's bout without any change. I haven't
restarted the server yet though, do I need to do that?

Administrative Templates and Scripts: gptext.dll
Folder Redirection: fde.dll
Internet Explorer Maintenance: ieaksie.dll
IP Security: ipsecsnp.dll
Public Key and Software Restriction: certmgr.dll
Remote Installation Services: rigpsnap.dll
Security: wsecedit.dll
Software Installation: appmgr.dll

I also tried to access the "Local Policy" on the server, and here I see the
categories......but that doesn't help me a lot, just shows me that they are
present somewhere on the server, but not accessible for the Group Policy
Object Editor.

Help would be much appreciated :)

Thomas
